I have some great news today: the Feria del Jamón in Estepona starts this weekend. I have to tell you a secret. Just writing the title made my mouth water!
The best part of summer in Estepona just arrived, and I honestly can’t wait to indulge in some of the most delicious ham Spain has to offer. If you haven’t been here before, this is your chance. From August 7 to 16, Estepona’s Paseo Marítimo (seafront promenade) will be lined with stalls serving, ham, artisan cheeses, cold cuts, local wines, and also plenty of live music.
There are plenty of places along the Costa del Sol where you can enjoy excellent food. But every August, Estepona offers something truly special. As the sun begins to set over the Mediterranean, the Paseo Marítimo fills with the aroma of freshly carved Iberian ham, live music drifts through the warm evening air, and thousands of locals and visitors come together for one simple reason: to celebrate good food, good company, and the Andalusian way of life.
About the Feria del Jamón
It’s 8 p.m. It’s finally cooling down, families are strolling along Estepona’s Paseo Marítimo, and the first slices of jamón ibérico are being carved by master cortadores. The Feria del Jamón in Estepona is far more than a food festival, it’s the summer event everyone waits for.
For ten days, the Paseo Marítimo transforms into a vibrant gastronomic destination where you can see and experience the true essence of Spain. Around 200 professional ham cutters showcase their incredible craftsmanship. But, that’s not all! Plates of ham can be combined with artisan cheeses, local wines, traditional delicacies, and free live concerts every evening. It’s a celebration of Spanish food, culture, and community, where everyone comes together to enjoy the beauties of living on the Costa del Sol. moment where everyone comes together to celebrate Spain and its wonderful delicacies.
What I love most about this festival is the atmosphere and everyone’s kindness. Even though thousands of people attend, it never feels rushed or competitive. Everyone is simply there to enjoy themselves. People wander from stall to stall, excited to see what they can try next, catching up with old friends and sharing their latest stories, or meeting new friends over a plate of jamón.
And trust me, you’ll see people everywhere. You’ll find them sitting at the communal tables or relaxing on benches. Personally, my favourite spot is the beach. You’re only a few steps away, so why not make the most of it? Spend a few minutes people-watching and you’ll see some wonderfully creative picnic setups. My favourite tradition is grabbing a few generous plates of ham, cheese, and charcuterie, heading down to the sand, and enjoying an impromptu beach picnic while watching the sun go down.

One thing we sometimes forget is the value of craftsmanship in a world driven by convenience and mass production. Festivals like these remind us of the dedication, patience, and passion that is put into every locally produced product. The people here put their heart into what they do, and that’s exactly what makes this festival so special. It’s not about finding the biggest plate of ham for the most economic price. It’s about the experience. About returning to your favourite stand year after year, chatting with the people behind the counter, asking for recommendations, and taking that first delicious bite.
The same is true for the producers. They’re not simply here to sell as much as possible. They’re here to showcase their talent and sharing a tradition that has been part of Spanish culture for generations. Producers travel from across Spain to take part in the festival, and visitors come because they know they’re getting quality.
If you’ve spent any time in Spain, you’ve probably noticed that food has a way of bringing generations together. One of my favourite sights is watching families stroll along the boulevard, sharing stories, laughing together, and simply enjoying each other’s company. The Feria del Jamón in Estepona is the perfect excuse to gather everyone. Even convince your beloved grandmother to come out for an evening of delicious food and great company.
Choosing a favourite isn’t easy. But if you’re visiting for the first time, I’d definitely recommend trying either the Jamón Ibérico de Pata Negra or the Jamón Ibérico de Cebo.
