Property Details
This lovingly restored, old Andalusian cortijo is situated in the hills, 15 kms outside the historic city of Ronda. The 5 bedroom farmhouse sits beautifully in the middle of a private plot of rolling farmland with stunning views of the surrounding hills and in the far distance the Sierra de las Nieves, 60.000m2 in total. It lies at the foot of the old Roman Town the Acinipo. It is an area filled with history and charm. In the Roman times the fields here were covered in vines, so it would be ideal to plant part of the plot again with vines! Especially given the fact that the Ronda wines and wineries have such an excellent reputation!
The history of this unique Spanish Cortijo dates back to the Roman era. Later in time, it was briefly in use as a convent. It has always been a stunning property due to its proximity to Ronda and the incredible views. The old, thick walls, the cloister, the arches and cobbled courtyard ooze history and Andalusian charm. For the last 35 years it has been a private home. A tranquil oasis to spend time with friends and family, away from the hustle and bustle. Only at a 20 minute drive from the vibrant town of Ronda.
A private drive through the open fields leads to the Andalusian cortijo. Ample parking and a carport for 3 cars. The over 600 m2 cortijo is built around a traditional cobbled courtyard. The main entrance opens to an entrance hall with guest toilet. On the right a large dining room with direct access to the vine covered terrace, overlooking the garden and the fields. The dining room is directly connected to an ample farm kitchen with high beamed ceilings. The kitchen is fully fitted, and doors open up directly to the aromatic herb garden and the breakfast terrace. Next to the kitchen there is a large pantry/second kitchen and the laundry room. The kitchen has its own entrance from the parking.
Furthermore, off the entrance hall, a spacious living room with fireplace and French-window doors open to the terrace. In summer the old vine provides comfortable shade and in wintertime, when the leaves have fallen, it allows the natural light into the house. From the living a cloister leads to the separate TV room.
Stairs in the entrance hall lead to 2 ample bedrooms with high beamed ceilings. Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom. One of the bathrooms has a balcony overlooking the courtyard. Both bedrooms have built in wardrobes and share an extra dressing room on the hallway.
Either directly from the courtyard, or following the cloister to the TV room you will find 3 guest bedrooms with bathrooms en suite. There is also an office in the courtyard.
Beyond the courtyard, a romantic pathway leads to the swimming pool (10 × 5 meters). It is surrounded by a walled garden and a loggia for which the original Roman arches are used. The pool area with the arches is a divine place to spend many lazy afternoon swimming and sunbathing, or taking your siesta in the shade. It has sufficient terraces around even to host pool-parties and BBQs! By the swimming pool, on the continuation of Roman arches, there is an ample entertainment room. Get creative! It can be a library, an art studio, cinema…
At the moment a local farmer uses a portion of the fields for dry crops. The the rest of the land is used privately in the form of a mature orchard with an abundance of fruit trees, including cherries, apple, pear, plums, peach, pomegranate and figs. There are also almond trees, pistachio and walnuts. Furthermore, an enclosed kitchen-garden with tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, as an example, a chicken coop and bird house, a workshop and a well house. The garden, vegetable garden and orchard all have automatic irrigation.
Hand made terracotta tiles are used throughout the property. Most rooms are large with high beamed ceilings. The house has central heating (oil fired) as well as traditional wood burning fireplaces. The house was renovated in 2007. Since then a few bathrooms have been renewed. The property is connected to mains electricity and internet. Water comes from their own well. From the well it is stored in 2 water storage tanks, app 30.000L for the pool and irrigation and ca. 10.000L for the house. Before it enters the house it goes through an automatic water-softener and a pressure pump provides instant water in all parts of the house. The plot is fully fenced in.
A one of a kind property, 20 minutes from Ronda, 1.15 from Marbella and 1.45 from Malaga airport. If you are looking for a one of a kind historic property with the most beautiful Roman features, this is your chance!
