Cortijo in Montilla, Cordoba, Andalusia, unique in its kind. Located in the heart of the famous vineyards of Montilla, it provides 10 hotel suites, several rooms and halls for events and on top of that a micro bodega and micro olive press, completely equipped to produce its own wine and olive oil. This country retreat has good access from the main road, yet is located completely private. The Cortijo has been completely refurbished in 2007-2009 and has successfully run as a rural hotel, restaurant and event venue for 4 years. Due to personal circumstances, this exclusive rural tourism hotel was closed in 2012 and has now come up for sale.
An impressive gate leads to ample parking. On the entrance patio, you will find the olive and wine presses, plus a little shop selling the own produce of wine and oil. The second walled patio gives way to the reception room and the restaurant. The third internal patio with old well leads to the bedrooms. The hotel has currently 10 rooms. There are 2 large suites, with bedroom, sitting room and bathroom, 1 quadruple room, also suitable for disabled guests, 1 triple room and 6 double rooms, all with private bathroom en-suite. The hallways and distribution areas are as beautifully decorated as the rooms themselves. Old wooden doors are preserved or bought, terracotta floors have been preserved where possible as are the vaulted ceilings and the ceilings with old beams in the bodegas. A corridor from the thirds patio leads to the ample garden with terraces and a pool from where you can overlook the surrounding countryside. The gardens were often requested as a wedding venue. It is possible to extend the hotel with another 10 rooms. An old bodega is pre-installed with plumbing and electricity to do so.
The part that makes this Cortijo hotel unique is the perfectly conserved Bodega and the ‘almazara’, olive press. The old Bodega with wooden barrels was used for wine tasting. The vineyard produces the different types of Sherry wine: Fino, Amontillado, Oloroso and Pedro Jimenez. The wooden barrels only hold part of the production. The majority is produced and kept in the old way, ‘en tinajas’, in large earthenware jars. Two types of olive oil are produced, one from the variety Hojiblanca and the other from the variety Alberquina. The olives are picked in an early stage and make a delicious high-quality ecological olive oil. The finca has 19 hectares of olives with approximately 5000 trees. They generate app. 20.000 l of olive oil. There are 6 hectares of vines of the variety Pedro Jimenez. There is a small grant on the ecological production.
This rural tourism complex is completed with extensive event facilities. Two large bodegas are joined together into one large hall for all kind of events. There are two more rooms for smaller events or meetings plus the restaurant (seating 45). The professional industrial kitchen is fully equipped to cater for large groups.
Furthermore, there is a chicken shed, seven boxes for horses, a hay storage and a barn for the agricultural machinery, an arena of 40×20, 2 paddocks, and there used to be an ecological vegetable garden.
The property has is connected to mains water and electricity and has also a well. The hotel is equipped with air conditioning hot and cold and has fireplaces in different areas. There is a backup generator also to provide cooling and heating for the large party hall.
The Cortijo is located at 5 minutes from the closest village, at 45 minutes from Cordoba and at 1hour and 15 minutes from Malaga.
